Choosing coding tools
AI coding tools can suggest completions, explain unfamiliar code or help edit a project. An editor-integrated assistant and a general chatbot solve different workflow problems; choose based on the repository and tasks you actually use.
- Distinguish autocomplete limits from chat or agent request allowances.
- Check whether access is an ongoing free plan or an introductory trial.
- Review repository access and data settings before sharing private code, and test generated changes.

How should I evaluate an AI coding tool?
Use a small, representative change in a test project. Check whether the tool understands the relevant files, whether the result passes your tests, and how much of its allowance the task uses. A generated answer alone does not establish code quality.
